Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

The question going in my head before my first session was – Does laser hair removal hurt?

does laser hair removal hurtWell, it’s always the first session which hurts. Also, because laser light produces heat, you’ll feel some kind of sensation or irritation during your hair removal treatment only when it’s your first time. In addition to this, hair follicles are surrounded by nerve endings, which may react to the heat produced by lasers by creating a sensation of discomfort or even mild pain. Most patients, often compare the sensation to having a rubber band snapped against their skin. There are certain areas of the body which may hurt more than others during laser hair removal treatment. Some patients with very thick, dark and dense hair may experience more discomfort than those with thin, light-colored hair or dense hair. This is because the more your hair is thicker and darker the more it absorbs the laser light during treatment. Normally, the hair becomes thinner and less dense after each consecutive treatment. That’s why most of the discomfort experiences is usually during the first treatment only. So, for such people who keep wondering in their minds about does laser hair removal hurt, it’s a yes to them.

I asked my friends – Does Laser Hair Removal Hurt?

Most of the people are in dilemma thinking – does laser hair removal hurt, can also be into a misconception of the pain it results in the end. The discomfort associated with laser hair removal varies considerably among different individuals. The extent of discomfort you’ll feel will depend not only on factors such as your skin type, the thickness and density of your hair, and the area of your body being treated, but also on your ability to bear or feel the pain. Although it occurs very rarely that a small number of patients find that they will not be able to undergo laser hair removal treatments due to their low threshhold for pain. Taking this reason as their core problem, many people visit hair removal clinics with the most common question – does laser hair removal hurt. Anybody who has undergone such treatments will definitely say, that it does work.

Numbing Creams if Laser Hair Removal Hurts -

People coming with the question does laser hair removal hurt are also consulted to use numbing creams because they don’t have the required threshold to bear the pain during treatment. In some situations, a numbing cream can be used to minimize the discomfort level. Talk with your clinician before applying any numbing cream to your skin, however. Discomfort is one of the best factors that clinicians use to determine the appropriate setting for the laser treatment. Also, although prescriped numbing creams are generally safe, putting them on large areas of your body can cause them to be absorbed into the bloodstream (through the skin) in very high amounts. For precautions, do not apply numbing cream to your own skin before treatment. Let the professionals do their job. Does laser hair removal hurt or using numbing creams is a better option? That is one of the most common questions that people normally ask amongst each other others or keep in their minds whenever laser hair removal (LHR) procedures are discussed.

So does laser hair removal hurt?

The answer is a solid YES but it is also equally important to keep in mind that with the use of laser generates an accelerated amount of heat that will not only be felt through your nerves but also can cause damage to other skin surfaces. Using laser to destroy your extra hair is a quite tricky process as the laser technician has to time precisely how long the beam should be focused on your hair areas to destroy it (right down to the root) while being very careful about causing skin damage with the heat. There is definitely some pain that comes as the procedure proceeds slowly, no matter how high tech the equipment used is or no matter how skilled the technicians are.

Does laser hair removal hurt that much? The good news here is that, for the most part, that it does work and the pain that comes with LHR is a little more tolerable when compared to electrolysis (a method that uses a needle to get rid off extra hair on your body and the roots). Some people also go for laser treatment on their bikini line, although it’s risky to be done . A few patients had reported for a slight pain with a feeling of being waxed with an elastic band. On the other hand, some of them were very new laser hair removal devices with built-in cooling mechanisms which reportedly reduces the amount of pain inflicted on the patient when used during treatments. Another bit of good news here is that the pain after laser treatment often goes away slowly, almost instantly although there is a need to watch out for post-treatment side effects also.

Of course there isn’t always a need to go all out with your hair removal. Though some ladies have many different opinions on a furry chest, most of the would agree to this that a hairy back is a bit to much. So, the answer to the question ‘Does laser hair removal hurt?’ is, yes it does only when your are experiencing it for the first time.

Great Tips To Prevent Skin Tanning

Excessive exposure to UV rays [sun’s rays] results in increasing pigmentation and melanin. As a result, it leaves a dark coloration [skin tan] or skin tanning. The same ultraviolet rays rays that helps in the production of Vitamin D, is also responsible for formation of some kinds of mole and skin cancers. One should always avoid excessive sun exposure. Apart from the problem of skin tanning, if sun rays are taken within a limit, it has also proved good for treating many diseases. A disease know as Rickets is caused due to insufficient sun exposure.

The sun rays burns the skin and results in causing many bad effects including skin cancer. People who might adore a bronze complexion may opt for ‘skin tanning’ / ‘bronzing’ voluntarily. Here, I am talking about the former, the undesirable skin tanning issue. Excessive exposure to sun rays can lead to skin ageing.

The process of Skin Tanning -

Melanin is produced by melanocytes. Melanin acts as a defense mechanism for our body against detrimental effects of UV rays. The two types of UV rays that results in skin tanning are UVA and UVB.

Skin tanning is basically a natural phenomenon. But we can’t also allow let our skin to get sunburns. Do you go out in the sun regularly? Do you visit beaches regularly? Are you aware of the face that in today’s world of pollution you are not free from the risk of suffering from skin cancer?

Sun tan -

Depending upon which part of the globe you come from you got to use a SPF lotion accordingly. Nowadays, there are a great variety of SPF lotions available in market. It acts as a key to protect us from skin cancer. If it’s in out hands then why aren’t we doing it? Let us get into detail to what happens when our body is exposed to the UV rays. The pigments that protect against those harmful UV rays are called Melanin. The UV ray oxidizes the existing melanin and leaves a much darker shade to our body. Not only this, but the excessive exposure to UV rays will trigger melanocytes to produce melanin in large amount. The prime job of these pigments is to absorb those harmful rays and thus preventing our body from its crucial bad effects. Although these pigments are beneficial for us but they still cause skin tanning which is not desirable.

Incidence -

African continents have the least number of people suffering from skin cancer. The reason is because people are blessed with a great count of melanin. That’s a natural count. But excessive exposure to UV rays and hence getting tanned is a different story. Skin tanning definately has a great link with a person’s genetic profile.

10 Ways to Prevent Sun Tanning -

4. Avoid moving out in the sun between 10 am and 3 pm. This is the time when both the types of UV rays ie UVA and UVB penetrate to it’s maximum into the earth surface resulting in tanned skin to those who are out during that period of time.
5. Always prefer using a sunscreen lotion. Make sure that you go out in the sun only after 15 minutes from the time of applying a sunscreen lotion. The SPF(sun protection factor) of the sun screen lotion should not be less than 15.
6. It’s a very common misconception that sunscreen lotion are applicable to your face and hands. No, you got to apply this to the entire areas of body which remain sun exposed at maximum times. Always choose a sun screen lotion that best suits your skin type. Rather than liking it’s fragrance, its quality should be watched carefully.
